Some cowboys wear Stetsons when they ride, but Kevin Hemming straps on a helmet.
Heeding the advice of his mother, Monica Hemming, the 11-year-old switched from wearing his cowboy hat to a wearing a helmet for safety reasons.
"I've started to wear a helmet," he said. "I like to make sure everything is on right and properly."
While most of Nassau County's principals know where their annual contracts stand, West Nassau High School Principal Ron Booker still doesn't.
During a Nassau County School Board meeting June 25, Booker's name was removed from a consent agenda that included other principals' contracts, following an objection raised by Vice Chair Kathy Burns, District 5.
The Callahan Little League Senior boys and girls All-Star teams both captured District 11 titles Monday night, but the two squads accomplished those ends in entirely different fashion.
For the girls from Callahan, the championship game against Baker County was close until the top of the fifth inning. They scored four runs in the frame to take a five-run lead and eventually won 10-3.
